Why Drink Filtered Water from Your Refrigerator?

Are you careful to make healthy choices for yourself and your family with filtered water? You can help make a positive difference in the purity of your water, your budget and the environment.

Groundwater sources and water treatment facilities can't eliminate all the possible contaminants in your drinking water traveling a large network of pipes before reaching your sink. Drinking water can pick up contaminants along the way like lead, mercury, chlorine, taste and odor, particulates, benzene and toxaphene.

Contaminated water can also reach your refrigerator ice and water dispenser and negatively affect the taste and smell of your drinking water and ice cubes. Filtering water through activated carbon traps impurities before reaching your dispenser.

As a last line of defense the refrigerator water filter can eliminate most contaminants from entering your drinking water. Providing you and your family clean clear filtered ice and water.

Your disposable water filter should be replaced when indicated on your control display or at least every six months. If you notice decreased water flow to your dispenser or ice maker change the filter sooner. To change a refrigerator water filter first locate the water filter compartment in the refrigerator ceiling on the right hand side.

Open the filter cover door by pushing up on the front edge of the door. The door will lower as you release it, exposing the filter housing. Remove the filter by turning counterclockwise then pulling it straight out of the housing. Note there may be some water remaining in the filter and some spilling may occur.

Use a towel to wipe up any spills. Remove the new filter from its packaging and remove the protective cover from the O-rings, be sure to check that the O-rings are still in place after the cover is removed.

Align the notch on the water filter with the opening in the housing and gently push the filter into place. Turn the filter clockwise until it stops to ensure the filter is installed correctly. Note, if the filter is not turned completely and locked into the housing the water dispenser will not operate and water will not flow from the dispenser.

Close the filter cover door by lifting it from underneath and pressing upward on the front edge until it’s shut. Anytime a filter is removed or replaced you should flush the water system to properly flush your water system you will need to run three gallons of water through the dispenser before use. This helps to purge any air and carbon fines from the system. Failure to flush the water system may result in dripping or slow water flow from the water dispenser.
